Is China willing to play the role plotted by the U.S. ??

US President Obama is swinging through Asia to regain the U.S. strategic interests in the region neglected by Bush administration for eight years. China gave him a warm welcome on a cold rainy winter night, and he pledged to better the cooperation with China while going though all the diplomatic formalities, ans so far so good. It is also an open secret that he came to seek China's "strategic assurance" to contribute more to the global issues and do a larger share in helping solve the thorny problems which are especially afflicting or threatening the U.S.  But will Obama have China's ear this time? In particular, at the juncture when the rising China needs to be heard.

Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Tuesday that he had agreed with U.S. President Barack Obama to increase international cooperation, after "frank, constructive and fruitful" talks in Beijing.

There are signs of revival, but still no firm recovery in the international financial situation, Hu said, adding that the two sides had reiterated commitments to increase dialogue on macroeconomic issues and resolve economic and trade frictions.

The two countries achieved "broad consensus" Hu said, and agreed to fight protectionism and to try to ward off future financial and economic crises. ( Reuters)
