As far as I can see, American women tend to be more independent and more self-reliant, while Chinese women appear more attached or more devoted to their family life, the Husband and relatives. The Chinese woman usually would rather sacrifice her own life for the success of her husband and a more promising future of her child. That explains why she would feel as if the sky fell in, if the husband or the only child turned against her one day. Also, Swayed by the anxiety of gains and loss, the Chinese woman will easily turn out to be "an old nag". With her temper and nerves fraying day in and day out, the Chinese woman would totally lose herself and might lose her marriage.

American women are by no means absolutely carefree and neither do they have more freedom to choose the life they want. But they are more open-minded and more knowledgeable in navigating their life boat.

The women of China are traditionally more centered around family values.  The husband, children and parents are the essential components of the wife's circle.  This is the traditional Chinese way and the way I as a western male would prefer it.  It is sad to say that I have less faith in my own culture of family values.  The unity in the family is thinner and more easily stretched beyond it's limits.  This means that external influences, trends and currents in society take the focus away from love and closeness in the family.  It happens gradually and sometimes it is unnoticed until it becomes a crisis in the family.  It is worth preserving this Chinese way of life regardless of the changes in the world around us.  Divorce is too common everywhere and no one can fully understand why love changes and people stray from one another.

One thing to keep in mind; the role of the woman in Chinese society is changing.  Equality in the work place and in wage earning is constantly seeking it's desired balance.  Chinese women are becoming more mainstream in business and generally more independent.  If this poll is issued 30 years from now, will it still add up to the same cultural divide?  With western culture already seeing diluting effects of these changes, where is there to go from here?  Do we go back to the old traditional values, or do we see continued liberation and acceptance of same sex progressions and adoption of children into these unbalanced unions?  It makes me want to cry out and cling to the old way!

Chinese vs American Ladies

It is interesting to read how the Chinese value the family. The U.S. Government has systematically degraded FAMILY VALUES for Political Correctness in support of cultural minorities of the LEFT WING Political forces. The advancement of women's rights does not preclude the NATURAL inclination of the FEMALES to carry on the human race via motherhood and the cohesiveness of the family. Any nation with any brains realizes a cultures bedrock is the family. Maybe China's Wise men know this simple truth.

Ladies

There is no doubt that American family life has changed and is still changing... and not for the better. The American need to "have" "buy" "own" has forced the American women into the job market (news says women now lead men in the job market) to "pay the bills".  Family life has deterorated over the last decade or generation to the point that families no longer eat togeather, often don't even talke (I mean really TALK and not just lip service!) Is a Chinese family REALLY any different? Sorry, I don't know... but I FEEL that there is not much of a gap between them... just in a different context! Family values are an important corner stone to a countries well being. Abandon them at your own peril!

There should have been the option of "neither" for a few of these statements.
